Attacking midfielder Ramsey was pictured back on the grass at Seagrave this week and Rowett has said that centre-back Souttar has joined him.

Ramsey has not played since the final game of 2025, when he pulled his hamstring just four minutes after coming on as a substitute in City's win over Derby. It was only his third game back after a two-month absence.

Souttar, meanwhile, has not featured for 15 months. He took a year to recover from an Achilles tear, but then had to have a minor surgery on a knee injury in January.

Rowett has suggested that they’re not going to pop up in his squad any time soon.

The manager said after the 2-0 win over Bristol City: “I think Rammo and Harry Souttar, with those players, they’ve been out for a while and we have to be careful. Of course, I want to get everybody back in. You saw the bench, it looks a lot stronger. It gives me a lot better options. I spoke about that in game one.

“They’re terrific players and if we can get them back, fantastic. But I think the important thing is that when they eventually come back, they get a chance to stay back. So we might have to be careful.”

With Ramsey and Souttar back in training, that’s just three City players who are now on the sidelines: Asmir Begovic, Jannik Vestergaard and Victor Kristiansen.

The rise in the number of fit players saw midfielder Louis Page return to the Under-21s this week. He started in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle on Monday.

Full-back Bade Aluko, who had been in the City matchday group for all of the previous 18 Championship games, was also left out of the squad against Bristol City.
