City have been unable to win any of their first four fixtures under their new manager but had been handed a tough run, with Middlesbrough, Norwich and Ipswich among the form teams in the division.
They now have a more favourable set of games from which to earn the points to save themselves from falling into League One.
Starting against Bristol City on Tuesday, City have four consecutive matches against mid-table sides, with already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday and then another mid-table outfit in Swansea after that.

Not only are Bristol City, QPR, Watford and Preston all in mid-table, with the play-offs appearing increasingly out of reach, they’re all in stumbling form, their seasons at risk of petering out. Now is the time for City to take advantage, Rowett says.
“We’ve got six out of the next nine games at home, so I think if you look at the balance of that, we need to step up the performances and seize those opportunities,” Rowett said.
“It’s quite clear that defensively in terms of work-rate, we’ve done that really well. We know we can be more creative in possession and do things a little quicker. We saw in some of the games, second half against Stoke I thought we were excellent. We have to start to piece those together this week for two big home games.
“I’ll never place the importance of a season on one game. You could win every single one of the next ones. But I think clearly our season starts Tuesday.
“That’s where we have to earn the right to be where we want to be. I don’t think we’ve got any excuses. We’ve shown we’ve got a good enough squad. Now we need to stop talking and we need to start doing.”
Even a draw on Tuesday night will lift City out of the bottom three, with neither West Brom nor Oxford in action until Wednesday. The Baggies face Southampton at home while Oxford host Blackburn in a crunch clash at the bottom.
City’s next six fixtures:
Tues, March 10 – Bristol City (H)
Sat, March 14 – QPR (H)
Sat, March 21 – Watford (A)
Fri, April 3 – Preston (H)
Mon, April 6 – Sheff Wed (A)
Sat, April 11 – Swansea (H)
