But as manager Gary Rowett says, the season starts here, at home to Bristol City. There's 10 games in which City can save themselves from falling into League One.

Heading into his fifth game as City manager, Rowett is yet taste victory. But three away draws from his first four means City are in touch with those above them.

In fact, a victory on Tuesday evening guarantees they sit outside the bottom three for at least 24 hours, with West Brom not in action until Wednesday night.

We are live at the King Power Stadium to bring you updates, analysis and reaction. Kick-off is at 7.45pm, with team news at 6.30pm.

We'll be back tomorrow with more analysis and reaction.

But for now, here's some reading:

Comments23:11Jordan BlackwellPlayers chanting your name often, how does that feel?GR: “I’d be an idiot to say it doesn’t mean anything to me. Of course it means something. It means we’re doing a lot of the right things on the pitch, which is all I’m bothered about.

“Myself and Callum are former players here, so it’s nice to have that connection. But the only way you build that is if people see what a slight change to what’s happening on the pitch.

“It’s not just us. It’s all the staff behind it. You come in and there's a lot of staff who have worked incredibly hard. It would be very easy for them to sit in the background when two new people come in.

“But every person has stepped up. There’s been a nice feeling of a galvanised group that all want to do well and all want to play their part. We’re just two people who are just trying to give it a different flavour and direction.

“It was a real team effort today, with the players, fans and staff all together. We want to feel that more often this season.”

Comments23:00Jordan BlackwellImpact of winning after such a drought?GR: “Clearly the team should have more confidence from that. It shows they can do it, so it gets that box ticked when it’s been a while.

“That feeling in the stadium when the fans see the team doing everything they can to keep a clean sheet and win, chasing and doing the right things, I think that helps everybody.

“It was big for us today, the crowd getting behind us superbly. I think in every game they’ve got behind us superbly, but Norwich last 30, maybe we didn’t give them anything to shout about. But other than that, it’s been magnificent.

“Who doesn’t want that? A full stadium, singing, happy, everybody goes home seeing a team that desperately wanted to win the game.

“But I did remind the players that good teams go and do it again, and again, and again. It’s one win. We’re not getting carried away.

“It shows a clear pathway of what’s required for the next game and the ones after that.”

Comments23:00Jordan BlackwellSix months without a clean sheet - what was different tonight?GR: “A stat for Leicester City that we haven’t earned a clean sheet in six months is quite disappointing. That should never happen in the first place. But it has done.

“You saw the performance. We’re not fixated on clean sheets. But part of playing football is stopping the opposition scoring.

“If you look at the Premier League, the best teams are the most stable defensively. Whenever we did get stability with our defensive shape, we create more attacking options. We get into better attacking positions. I think you saw that first half with our transitions. We saw it late on. Abdul and Stephy got into some great positions. It was just about the final pass.

“It’s just as important as the attacking side of the game. I thought we found a better balance today, which was pleasing.”

Comments22:57Jordan BlackwellBeen leading at HT and failed to win before. What did you say at HT?GR: “Less about what we said at half-time. Before the game, myself and Callum chatted at length [about] how it feels, at the moment, we’ve almost got to have two teams, a 60-minute team and then a 30-minute team.

“It feels like there’s different periods in the game, maybe towards the end of games that anxiety of not keeping a clean sheet or not winning games often enough, maybe, manifests itself in what looks like a negative way, but that’s just when you haven’t won for a while.

“We purposely almost left real strength on the bench to then change and being able to bring Patson, Winks, Divine and Ricardo on, it actually changed the game completely.

“Of course, we needed a penalty save that we know is a hugely important part in the game, maybe if they score, the last period is different. I thought we managed it really well.

“I laughed in the dressing room. Winsky broke and then he ran it into the corner, so you’re getting technical players like Winks to manage the game in that way, at least some of the messages are getting through.”

Comments22:50Jordan BlackwellA few goals from set-pieces now. Been doing extra work?GR: “Not me, Hughesy (Andrew Hughes) does all the set-piece work and does the details really well. They do a lot of practice.

“But I think that’s something generally as a centre-half, the more you build that confidence in your defensive shape then people like Ben start to keep improving his performances. You’ve seen that in the last few games, him and Caleb, to keep Jamaal out of the team.

“He’s one that I’ve desperately wanted to get in the team because of his leadership qualities, but I think every time I feel I can play Jamaal, one of the other two step-up and perform. I thought at Ipswich they were excellent and then really good tonight.

“Part of being a centre-half is giving us that threat from set-pieces as well. Good centre-halves get four or five a season and it makes a big difference. You’ve seen that with Caleb’s goal the other week and Ben's goal today.”

Comments22:45Jordan BlackwellRowett on win and performanceGR: “We ticked a few boxes tonight, didn’t we? A clean sheet, won the game and a really nice feeling in the stadium towards the end.

“Super important to get that one to help build everybody’s confidence in what we’re doing. It wasn’t a game that was without its moments, that potentially could have turned into an anxious end.

“I thought we started well and brightly, they played a slightly different system to what we felt they would play, which caused us one or two problems early on. But we went ahead through a nicely taken set-piece, a really nice delivery and Ben, who should get on the end of a few more of those, I keep telling him, but it was nice [for him] to come up with a goal. Him and Caleb were outstanding today, so it was nice for him to go on and score.

“Then after that, our shape was OK, they didn’t really create too many clear cut chances, I’d maybe like us to be more aggressive in the press and with our movement defensively to get back up the pitch. I felt we were quite happy, maybe subconsciously, to protect a lead.

“Then we score again, a bit of composure in the game, we make 18 passes, ball gets crossed in from Stephy, ends up at Abdul and it’s a lovely volley with his wrong foot. It got us into a good position and it was important in the first half.”

CommentsFTJordan BlackwellFull-time: City 2-0 Bristol CityA first win in two months!

A first clean sheet in six months!

City are out of the bottom three, at least for 24 hours.

"We are staying up!" and "Gary Rowett's Blue Army!" are the chants from the Kop. The fans are very happy with that.

Reaction to come.

Comments90 minJordan BlackwellFou minutes addedAribo is coming on to help see this out.

Comments89 minJordan BlackwellCity professionally seeing it outAre we about to get a win and a clean sheet? It feels like we are.

Comments79 minJordan BlackwellMukasa on for De Cordova-ReidThat's City's fourth change.

There's 10 minutes to go here and they look okay at the moment. The game is stretched a little, but the Robins don't look like exploiting that right now.

If there's to be another goal, you'd say it is more likely to go City's way.

Comments75 minJordan BlackwellNearly a third! It's brilliant skill from Fatawu out wide to beat two men. He goes for goal but Okoli nearly heads it in at the back post, the Italian bouncing off the post after he nodded wide.

Comments73 minJordan BlackwellFatawu bends overThere's all sorts of space for City on the break now and De Cordova-Reid sends Fatawu away.

He's got options, but he goes alone and bends an effort just over the bar. City could do with a third to really end this game as a contest.

Comments68 minJordan BlackwellTriple sub for CityIt's Winks, Daka and Ricardo on.

James, Ayew and Choudhury make way.

Comments65 minKEY EVENTSAVED! Stolarczyk denies Riis! The City keeper dives the right way and keeps out Riis' spot-kick!

It has to be said, it's a really poor penalty. It's tame and not anywhere close to the corner. But Stolarczyk goes the right way and smothers the ball.

He's bailed out Nelson there. The centre-back pressed forward and didn't win the challenge, and then completely took out Riis as he tried to recover.

Comments63 minJordan BlackwellPenalty to Bristol City! It's Nelson who dives in and he takes out Riis.

Comments59 minJordan BlackwellFatawu shoots wideCity work the ball well, Nelson stepping out of defence to start the attack, and then Fatawu nutmegs McCrorie to get himself on the move.

He cuts inside and goes for goal from 25 yards. It's a good way wide.

Comments55 minJordan BlackwellNearly an own goal at the other end!Choudhury intercepts, De Cordova-Reid feeds Fatawu and his ball to Ayew on the break is nearly turned into his own net by Knight.

Comments54 minJordan BlackwellChoudhury clears over his own barHorvat crosses and it's an unorthodox clearance from the City captain at the back post, shinning it over his own bar.

City have been forced back a little here.

Comments50 minJordan BlackwellStrong startBristol City scored in the opening few seconds of the second half the last time these teams met, but there's been no danger of that today.

City have started the second period on the front foot.

Comments46 minJordan BlackwellUp and running againThe visitors have made a change, Sykes for Bird, but it's the same 11 for City.

CommentsHTJordan BlackwellHalf-time: City 2-0 Bristol CityHorvat fires over from a short corner and there's the whistle.

City lead thanks to a pretty good performance and two well-taken goals from Nelson and Fatawu. They're in a strong position.

But Bristol City have been on top for the final 15 minutes of the half, while few will need reminding that City led 2-0 at Bristol City in December, and the game finished 2-2.

Comments45 minJordan BlackwellOne minute addedCity have a little more defending to do before the break.

Comments42 minJordan BlackwellPressure buildingOkoli has to block two shots as the Bristol City pressure builds, the visitors working it well to get to the edge of the box.

Skipp eventually wins the ball back and finds Fatawu with the out-ball. But City choose to slow the game rather than attack the space.

Comments39 minJordan BlackwellCrowd growing a little tenseIt's been all Bristol City for the past five minutes and there's a few home fans who are audibly growing a little tense.

City are doing okay. They're not giving up any chances, but neither are they able to get out of their own half.

Comments28 minKEY EVENTGOAL!!! Fatawu lashes in!City lead 2-0!

It's great play from Skipp to shield the ball and then get City moving. It's worked out to the left to Mavididi, who crosses.

De Cordova-Reid goes for the bicycle kick, but Borges blocks and the ball spoons up into the air to an unmarked Fatawu.

And on the volley, from a tight angle on his weaker right foot, he makes a sweet connection, the hit too strong for Vitek to keep it out, despite getting a hand to it.

City are into a commanding lead!

Comments24 minJordan BlackwellOff the post!So close to a City second!

Borges gets caught under a Stolarczyk kick and Fatawu is away. He plays the selfless ball and finds Mavididi in the box.

The winger uses his man cleverly, sliding it through his legs, only to see the shot bounce off the outside of the post.

The crowd appreciated that. The noise is growing here.

Comments19 minJordan BlackwellCity dealing with pressureSince the goal, Bristol City have been the better side, and have advanced into City's half, Rowett's men struggling to put the passes together to escape.

They eventually do so through a Skipp surge. The midfielder has been very good so far, on the ball and off it.

Comments13 minKEY EVENTGOAL!!! City lead!Nelson thumps in!

Fatawu wins a free-kick 35 yards out after a delicious roulette draws a trip. It's James with the ball in and Nelson gets between two men at the back post to power a header past Vitek.

On the bench, King and Salder both congratulate set-piece coach Hughes. That's two goals in two games from free-kicks for City.

Most importantly, they're out of the bottom three as things stand.

Comments10 minJordan Blackwell'Gary Rowett's Blue Army!'That's the chant from the Kop in the early stages. City are starting to control possession here now and they're inching up the pitch looking for an opening.
